Wanda Lou Roberts

Mrs. Wanda Lou (Gilstrap) Roberts, age 86, of Lake Butler, passed away on September 17, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 5, 1936, in Oklahoma City, to Mark Gilstrap and Mary Margaret (Scritchfield) Laster. The family moved to Florida from California in 1973 to begin work for the Department of Corrections. Wanda attended City College in Gainesville and obtained her AA degree. She worked in health care for several years before taking a job with the Department of Corrections. Wanda worked for 27 years with the DOC before her retirement. During her working career, she was known as a hard worker, dependable, and never complained. Those are traits she learned early on and carried them throughout her life. Her family was everything to her, and she enjoyed being the caretaker, generously giving, even if it meant she went without, and loving unconditionally. She will be deeply missed. She’s preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bainbridge Colby Roberts; her son, Kenneth L. Holmes; and brother, Jerry Gilstrap.

Wanda is survived by her children, Darrell Steven (Linda) Holmes of Lake Butler, Diana Nichols of Brooker, Karen (Tracy) McQuaig of Ft. White, Mark (Kim) Holmes of Moultrie, GA, Tammy (Brad) Macey of Lake Butler, and Terry Stoddard of Lake Butler; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members also survive.

A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. She will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 2:00 PM.
