Vivian Latrell Crews Whitehead

Ms. Vivian Crews Whitehead, age 84, of Lake Butler, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday August 8, 2013, at the Shands at University of Florida Hospital after an sudden illness. Ms. Vivian was born in Union County on October 8, 1928, to the late Lonnie M. and Dessa Courson Crews. She met and married the love of her life: Mr. John H. Whitehead, Sr. on February 4, 1946. She was the Jail Matron for 35 years here in Union County, working along side her husband who was Sheriff for many years. She was a member of many organizations during her lifetime and was a member of the First Christian Church in Lake Butler. She never met a stranger, whether you saw her around town or even at the Jail she always had that warm smile on her face and greeted you with one of her warm hugs. To know her was to love her. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she never missed a birthday, anniversary or any special occasion unless she was just too sick. When her sister Cindy was living; her, Margaret and "Sis" would go see her every Wednesday and take her to lunch, although many times she was unable to go. We want to Thank God for giving her to us to love, and for her loving us. She was a very special lady to so many. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Malcolm and L.J. Crews and her loving husband of 61 years: Mr. John H. Whitehead, Sr. Left to cherish the many memories of her are her children: John H. Whitehead, Jr. (Brenda) of Lake Butler; Jerry Whitehead (Tammy) of Lake Butler and Cynthia Sue "Sis" Whitehead of Lake Butler; her sister: Margaret Pritchett (Marvin) of Lake Butler; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; also many friends are left to cherish her memories. Funeral services for Ms. Vivian will be conducted on Sunday afternoon August 11, 2013, at 2PM in the First Christian Church in Lake Butler with Rev. Art Peterson officiating. Internment will follow in the Whitehead Family Cemetery (east state road 100). The family will receive friends from 5-8PM, Saturday evening August 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
