Sidney Leonard Keen, Sr., was born on September 27, 1948, in Lake City, Florida and peacefully passed away on November 19, 2024, at his home in Lake Butler, leaving behind a legacy rich with faith, humor, and cherished memories.
For decades, Sidney devoted himself to the art of butchery, honing his craft at various local stores where he developed a reputation for excellence and a kind word for every customer. His career extended beyond butchery; he dedicated his time to Florida Pest Control and Sheffield's Pest Control, always approaching his work with the same quick wit that made him endearing to those who knew him. Sidney also nurtured the spirit of community by owning Lulu General Store, Welborn General Store, and Captain Butler's Restaurant, local establishments where he delighted patrons with not only hearty meals but also infectious laughter, drawing people together around shared tables and friendships.
A man of boundless humor, Sidney's quick-witted banter and beaming smile were the hallmarks of his personality. His presence could uplift any gathering, igniting joy with his playful jests and unique storytelling. His laughter was a comforting balm to many, making his home a sanctuary of warmth where friends and family alike would find solace and joy.
An active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City, Sidney's devotion to the Lord was the driving force in his life. He never waived on his faith and his family.
Sidney leaves behind a loving family who carry forward his spirit. He is survived by his children: Wendy (Max) Findley, Sherry (Ricky) Todd, Sid (Brandy) Keen, and John Keen. Each of them holds precious memories of their father's creativity and humor, a legacy that will undoubtedly continue with them. His grandchildren, Krissy Keen (Steve), Amy Smith (David), Melinda Morrison (Kyler), Kaylee Findley (Angie), Tiffany Gilliam (Garrett), Kinley Keen (J.P.) , Willie Findley, Chelsea Keen (Destin), Maci Keen, Brent Keen, John Keen, Bryce Keen, and Kiley Keen, will carry forth the tales of their grandfather’s joyful spirit to their own children—eight great-grandchildren who will know him through the love passed down to them. Sidney's siblings, Alberteen Manning, Betty (Frank) Sheffield, James (Margaret) Keen, and Paul (Cathy) Keen also are left behind to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gladys Keen; his brother Bill Keen; and his loving wife, Verdia Keen.
