Sherry Barnett

April 17, 1956 — June 14, 2024

Lake Butler

Sherry Beatrice Ogden Barnett was born April 17, 1956, and spent most of her life in Union County, except for one college semester at BYU in Utah where the snow sent her running back to Florida. She was the first high school & college graduate in her family, given the love of reading & education from her father, Woody. Together, with her husband of 46 years, Douglas Barnett Sr., they created a life and family based on faith in Jesus Christ, faith in each other, joy, laughter, commitment, forgiveness, and as many beach vacations as possible.

As an educator for over 30 years in the Union County School system she was a friend & mentor to generations. Once when asked what she was most proud of in her life she answered, “that anyone can sit next to me anywhere and be themselves, knowing I will not judge them.”

Her life was devoted to Christ as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in various volunteer positions for over 40 years. Her life of service was instilled by her mother, Jeraline and extended to all. She would quietly find someone in need, anonymously pay a stranger’s dental bill, or purchase a local family's Christmas gifts; living the scripture Matthew 6:2.

Sherry lived her life by the motto “life is to be enjoyed, not just endured”. Which to her included eating dessert first & laughing as much as possible.

She passed away peacefully at home, a home she designed as her “dream home” 30 years ago. Her last days were spent laughing, surrounded by family, friends & her 3 cats. The family is comforted in the promised blessings of the Atonement of Jesus Christ that she is now standing in full health with her loved ones that preceded her in death, her parents; husband of 46 years, Doug Barnett, Sr.; and her siblings, Buddy Ogden and Kristin Akers all together again in a vision of wholeness with no more disease, addiction, or ailments in a most perfect form of glory for time and all eternity. Until they meet again, she will be missed & celebrated by her children Doug (Michele) Barnett, Jr. of Fort Worth, Ashley (Javier) Campanini of Alachua, and Ryan Barnett of Lake Butler; her grandchildren Brendan and Morgan Barnett of Fort Worth; and her siblings Susan Akers of Lake City, Russel (Dorinda) Akers of Lake Butler, Stewart Akers of Homosassa, and Ane-Elise Worthington (Shawn Henderson) of Lake Butler, along with numerous friends and family.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 6pm - 8pm at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer-Milton Funeral Home. 386-496-2008 www.archerfuneralhome.com
