Sandra Lee Worthington, a cherished caregiver, devoted family member, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away on March 21, 2025, at the age of 81, with her loving family by her side. Born on March 21, 1944, Sandra exemplified humility and kindness throughout her life. She was known for her extraordinary willingness to give selflessly to others, often described as someone who would "give the shirt off her back." She truly never met a stranger and had many friends that will miss her dearly.
Although spending a lot of her life moving around Florida, she always referred to Lake Butler as her home. Sandra was a fundamental part of the New River Baptist Church community in Brooker, Florida, where she actively engaged in worship and served among her peers. No matter where her life took her, she always found a way to serve in her community no matter where God placed her. Her caring nature was further demonstrated through her commitment to working with the less fortunate, as she participated in initiatives such as Toys for Tots and the Precious Angel Society.
In addition to her community service, Sandra had a passion for artistic pursuits. She loved to paint and explore various crafts, and she found joy in crocheting, making her own clothes for herself and others, and creating delightful dishes for her family that never failed to bring smiles to their faces. A devoted fan of Elvis, she often delighted in activities related to his music, sharing her love for the legendary performer with those close to her. Mrs. Sandra was also a dedicated University of Florida "Gator" fan, no matter the sport, always willing to tailgate or participate in any event. She advocated for anyone she loved and would throw a "Sandra fit" if they would not cooperate. She truly was the embodiment of a caregiver, in every sense of the word. Most of all, she is known as a loving, caring, devoted, mama/grandma/mema that will be missed tremendously.
Sandra leaves behind her beloved daughter, Paula Mathews, along with her cherished grandchildren: Rebekah Leigh Harris, Charles Arthur David Worthington, Charles Stephen Worthington, and Jacob David Yarbrough. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Chloie, Canaan, Jason, Mason, and Meena, who will forever remember her warmth and love. She also leaves behind her feline companion, Milo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband, Charles Paul Worthington; her son, Charles Owen Worthington; as well as her brothers, Skippy, Wayne, and Frank Black.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing at the New River Baptist Church on March 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M officiated by Pastor Tim Dudding. Mrs. Sandra will be laid to rest at the church cemetery. The church, situated at 16703 SW 144th Ave, Brooker, FL 32622, will serve as a space for all those who knew and loved Sandra to come together and honor her remarkable life.
