On Thursday, October 6, 2022, Richard Alan Woodington, beloved husband and loving father of three children, passed away at the age of fifty-nine. Alan was a graduate of Union County High School in Lake Butler, Florida. At the age of nineteen, he started what would become a nearly 40-year career at Interstate Batteries. First as a local route driver in Gainesville, Florida, then at the corporate offices in Dallas, Texas, and for the last 26 years, as owner of the Interstate Battery Distributorship in Huntsville, Alabama.
Known by most as Alan or “Woody” by his poker buddies, Alan loved SEC football, especially the Florida Gators. Every Sunday in the fall, you could catch him watching the Gators with his special visor on, coaching (yelling) from his seat while texting his big brother Billy. He had an affinity for a good bourbon, playing poker or golf with his buddies, and most recently his boys. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. While Alan loved these past times, he didn’t get to enjoy them as much because he never missed a chance to spend time with his kids and watch them doing what they love; he never missed a practice, game, school activity or dance competition.
Alan was probably best known for his dry, quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. He seemed to always do the right thing and treated everyone he met the same.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, and their children, Graham (23), JD (20) and Elle (13); his brother, Billy (Pam) Woodington. Mother-in-law Lenora Graham, sister-in-law Jennifer (Todd) Jagmin; nieces and nephews, Austin (Tara) Woodington, Ashlyn (Will) Burtle, Jimmy Jagmin, Jillian Jagmin and Audyn Woodington.
A funeral service to honor Alan’s life will be held on Sunday, October 16, at 2:00 pm at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Lake Butler, Florida. Immediately following the funeral service there will be a reception and visitation with the family in the fellowship hall of the church. Alan will be laid to rest at 4:00 pm at Elzey Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. 386-496-2008. www.ArcherFuneralHome.com
