Ovedia Parrish Mann

Ovedia Parrish Mann, age 86, of Lake Butler passed away November 6, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Florida and a native of Union County, Florida. Even though she spent some school years in Miami (following her father's death), Ovedia always considered Lake Butler her childhood home.
She married fellow Lake Butler native, George W. Mann, a US Navy veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Ovedia gave birth in 1947 to their first child, Walter, at her sister Mary's home before the doctor arrived. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Miami where Roger, their second child, was born. Miami was "getting crowded" in 1960 and so they relocated to Jacksonville where their daughter, Linda, was born. Following George's retirement from Eastern Airlines, the couple returned "home" to Lake Butler in 1986. They loved gardening together and, following his retirement, were constant companions until his death in 1998.
Ovedia dedicated her life to being a wife and mother. Her loves included crafts, fishing, old-time country music, and being around relatives. The handmade quilt she made with 180 signature panels of relatives covers her casket instead of the traditional flowers.
Survivors include her son, Roger Mann of Jacksonville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brad Brunson of Jacksonville Beach. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Ovedia was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, George W. Mann; eldest son, Walter David Mann, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Trudy Diane Devevo Mann; and her only grandchildren, Walter David Mann, Jr. and Maria Diane Mann; sisters, Mary Mann, Ollie Dunavant, and Vera Thomas; brothers, Steve, Wilbur, and J.S. Parrish.
As an option to flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
The visitation will be held on Friday, November 9th, at Archer Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Elzey Chapel Cemetery.
