Mr. John "Wayne" Powell, 57, of Lake Butler, FL, passed away suddenly, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at his home.
Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for six years. He earned his "Dress Blues" as an honor graduate from boot camp, and also received a Letter of Commendation, Meritorious Mast, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Expert Badge. He then went on to use his expertise in carpentry and construction for 30+ years.
He enjoyed traveling, boating, swimming, and sports. He also enjoyed cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends. Wayne was always willing to help anyone with carpentry projects or whatever else they needed him for. Wayne was preceded in death by his father Tyra Powell and his nephew Dustin "Dusty" Powell.
He is survived by his daughter Angelina Kelley; granddaughters Cailynn and Addyson; mother Geraldine Powell; brothers Thomas "Tommy" Powell, Mitchell Powell, and Terry (Tammy) Powell; and his sister Susan "Susie" Forsyth. Many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
Memorial services for Wayne will be held in the chapel of Archer Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Kirby Crosley officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 P.M. (one hour prior to services) on Wednesday. Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler is in charge of arrangements, 386-496-2008.
