Mrs. Melba Hardee Green, age 95, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on January 30, 2023. She was born on April 2, 1927, in Jacksonville, FL, to the late James Ellie and Dellie Mae (Neill) Hardee. Mrs. Green grew up in Alachua County. After graduating high school, her first job was a switchboard operated for Southern Bell Phone Company. In 1947, she married the love of her life, David Wilson Green. The couple first lived in Starke before traveling around with David’s work and finally settling in Jacksonville in 1984. Melba was the social chair of the family. Always hosting family events and dinners. She loved to cook, sew, and her last project was cross stitching pillowcases for the family. She enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and was a season ticket holder for the Florida Gators for many years. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and an active member of Christ’s Church in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, David Green; both parents; daughter, Marcia Ann Hansen; grandson, Charles Newman Ulery, Jr; and her siblings, Inez Hardee, Edith Lorell Kirby, James Fred Hardee, Betty Jean Dampier, and John Henry Hardee.
Mrs. Green is survived by her daughters, Nancy (John) Lawson of Aiken, SC, Jayne Hardesty of St. Johns, FL; and Michele (Richie) Bryant of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn (Mark) Fulcher, David Wilson (Amy) Ulery, Jason (Leslie) Goodner, Caroline, Sarah Grace, and Ben Bryant, and Matthew Holmes; great grandchildren, Joshua, Katie Bell, Perry Elizabeth, and Lucy Clair Fulcher, Charles Newman Ulery, III, Carrie Ann Ulery, and Blake Crawford Ulery; her sister, Elaine (Tom) Beaty of Gainesville; numerous extended family also survive.
A funeral to honor Mrs. Melba’s life will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 2:00 pm at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 1:00 pm.
