Mattie Lee Varnes

Mattie Lee Clemons Varnes, age 85, of Lake Butler, FL passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. Mrs. Varnes was born January 25, 1936 to the late Oliver and Florence Mosely Clemons. She spent most of her life in Lake Butler. She married her husband, William H. Varnes, Jr. in 1951 and they spent 70 years together. Mrs. Varnes had a compassion for people and loved everyone who met her. For over 40 years she used that caring hand to treat patients while working as a nurse. Mrs. Varnes enjoyed camping, tending her flowers and animals, especially her dog, Sasha. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Varnes is survived by her husband, William H. Varnes, Jr. of Lake Butler; son, Isaac (Karen) Varnes of Lulu; her daughters, Teresa (Greg) Little and Linda (Tony) Hammonds both of Lake City; grandchildren, Daryl Larson, Jason Little, Jamie Kraft, Lee Varnes and Crystal Huffman; great-grandchildren, Rhett Little, Dean Little, Lexi Huffman and Lily Huffman; numerous extended family also survive.

A funeral service to honor Mrs. Varnes will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the funeral home. Mrs. Varnes will be laid to rest at Swift Creek Cemetery.
