Mrs. Mattie Lou Ray, age 89, passed away peacefully at her Glen St. Mary home on October 12, 2021. Ms. Ray was born January 30, 1932, in Adel, Georgia to the late James Lawrence and Maude McNeil Miley. She has lived most of her life in Florida, primarily in Union and Baker County. She had a good sense of humor and wit about her which helped her keep her sanity while raising 12 children. Mrs. Ray was a wonderful mother, but her grandchildren were her whole world. She was also an avid yardsaler and loved cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. Mrs. Ray in preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie Ray; children, Charlie, Jr., Bobby, Danny, Johnny, Nancy, Penny, and Cathy; her siblings, Everett Miley, Reba Webb, Dutch Hardy, W.M. Miley, and Ted Milton.

Mrs. Ray is survived by her children, Diane Crews (Myron) of St. George, Vernell Chesser (Jack) of Moniac, Billy Charles Ray (Carlene) of Okeechobee, Linda Raulerson (Billy) of Moniac, William Ricky Ray of Glen St. Mary, Sandy Ray of Glen St. Mary, and Randy Matthew Ray of Glen St. Mary; over 50 grandchildren and almost 100 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Miley of Lake Mead; and numerous nieces and nephews.


A service for Mrs. Ray will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00am. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Call Cemetery immediately following the service.
