Mary Ellen Shadd

Ms. Mary Ellen (Broughton) Shadd, age 82, of Middleburg, Florida, passed away on July 9, 2019, at her home. Ms. Shadd was born on February 19, 1937 in Jacksonville, FL, to Floyd Broughton and Elizabeth Murry Broughton. She married the love of her life, Mr. Grady Shadd, in 1964, and they had one son, Allen. She loved to travel and attend bluegrass festivals with her husband. Ms. Shadd also loved to cook and was known for her pies and homemade banana pudding. She attended church at New River New Congregational Methodist Church in Lawtey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Grady, and both parents.

Ms. Shadd is survived by her son, Allen (Lauren) Shadd of Lake Wiley, SC; grandson, John Thomas Shadd of Lake Wiley, SC; brother, Ronald Broughton of Jacksonville, FL; step children, Gary (Toni) Shadd of Easley, SC, Becky (Kinard) Burnsed of Macclenny, FL, and Cindy (Marshall) Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA. Numerous extended family also survive.

A funeral service to honor the life of Ms. Shadd will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:00 am, at her church, New River New Congregational Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at the church. Reverend Jimmy Scott will officiate the service. Ms. Shadd will be laid to rest, alongside her husband, at Pine Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer Funeral Home. 386-496-2008.
