Leroy “Gene” Rollins, age 59, passed away February 28, 2023, after a brief illness. Gene was born in Lake Butler on February 6, 1964, to the late Edwin and Sally Jenkins Rollins. After high school, Gene went to work on the oil rigs in Texas for several years. He came back and worked driving trucks and as a bouncer at Bobby’s Hideaway. He got a job with the prison and worked for many years until he was physically unable. After the prison, Gene made living scrapping and junking. He was very artistic and enjoyed woodwork. He also enjoying listening to Rock and Roll and collecting coins, trains, and other collectibles. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Sally and his brother, Edward Wayne Rollins.
Gene is survived by his son, William (Beth) O’Steen; niece, Tiffany (Billy) Rollins; nephew, Wayne (Katie) Rollins, Jr.; sister-in-law, Kim Rollins; grandchildren, Charlotte and Colton O’Steen; and numerous extended family.
A service to honor Gene will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 8th at First Baptist Church Lake Butler. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning an hour prior at 1pm. Gene will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Dekle Cemetery.
