Lena Carolyn Hinson

Mrs. Lena Carolyn (Register) Hinson, age 60, of Lawtey, FL passed away peacefully on August 2, 2020, at the UF Heath Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. She was born on March 15, 1960 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Lewis Carlton Register and Inez Sistrunk Register. She grew up in Jacksonville and graduated from Ed White High School in 1978. Lena moved to Lawtey, 36 years ago and started working for the University of Florida Law School. She worked there for 30 years until her retirement in 2017. Her passion was reading, taking bubble baths, enjoying a cold Diet Coke, and eating some German bologna (from Publix), but above all, it was spending time with her family. About 30 years ago, a missionary couple, the Harper’s, came to Starke and she fell in love with them and they with her. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Starke Ward and was a devoted member.

She is preceded in death by both parents and her brother, James Register.

Lena is survived by her husband of 41 years, Marion Hinson of Lawtey, FL; her two daughters, Jessica Lee (Michael) Kelley of Lawtey, FL and Rebecca Hinson (David) Taylor of Washington, GA; her 6 grandchildren, Ashely Kelley, Brianna Hinson, Clyde Kelley, Delanie Kelly, Avalene Taylor and Ryker Taylor; one great granddaughter, Annabelle Tripp; her sister, Brenda Trogdon of Starke, FL; and two special nephews, Jake (Virginia) Butts of TX and Clint (Amy) Butts of GA; numerous extended family also survive.

A graveside service and dedication of the grave will be held of Friday, August 7, at 5:30 PM at the Peoria Cemetery in Doctor’s Inlet. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 5:00 PM at the cemetery. Bishop Steve Barber will be presiding over the services.
