Langston Alexander Sykes

April 20, 1993 — March 4, 2025

Jacksonville

Langston Alexander Sykes, a beloved husband, father, son, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2025, in Lake City, Florida. Born on April 20, 1993, in Gainesville, he was the light in the lives of many and the cherished heartbeat of his family.

Langston's journey through life was one marked by hard work and determination. He dedicated his skills as a carpenter at Websters Custom Cabinets, however, it was his love of mixed martial arts that pushed him. Over the past four years, he passionately pursued his dreams as an MMA fighter, embodying grit and determination both in and out of the ring.

Those fortunate enough to know him remember his gentle spirit and laid-back demeanor. He was not only a jokester who could bring laughter to any situation, but also a humble man who carried himself with a quiet dignity, always radiating positivity and respect. Langston had a flair for fashion; he dressed well, always wearing the latest trend. As a young boy Langston enjoyed skateboarding, as he grew up, he immersed himself in video games and enjoyed diving into books.

He was proud to be a father, reveling in the joy that his children brought him. His children Kyland and Kyran, Laniyah, Zyair, and Langston were the core of his universe, as he cherished every minute spent with them.

Family gatherings echoed with laughter as Langston enjoyed being around his family. These are the ones that will miss him most - his wife, Desiree Smith Sykes; his mother, Theresa Sykes; father Johnnie Sykes, III; his siblings: Whitney Sykes, Percephini Sykes, Emmanuel “Manny” Sykes, Mont Brown, and Ayanna Sykes. He was also close to his in-laws - mother-in-law, Lisa Hogg, and his siblings-in-law: Kirsten Smith, Dakota-Marie Smith, Jason Smith, ToniAnn Smith, Remington Rogers, and Kaylee Hillhouse, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who held him dear. Langston is predeceased by his grandparents, Gladys Sirmones, Shirley Sykes, Mama Gladys Sykes, and Johnnie Sykes, Jr.

A celebration of his life will take place on March 15, 2025, with a viewing at 1:00 PM followed by a gathering to honor him at 2:00 PM, all held at the Union County High School Auditorium in Lake Butler, Florida.
