Mrs. Joyce M. Whidden, age 82, of Lake Butler, passed away peacefully at Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City on June 11, 2022. Born January 3, 1940, in Ft. Myers, Florida, to the late Jim and Mabel Bostic McCoy, Joyce spent most of her life in south Florida. In 1998, she and her family moved to Union County to enjoy the quiet rural community. Mrs. Whidden was a talented seamstress, specializing in quilting. She has won numerous awards and ribbons for her quilts. She has also been a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Starke for many years. Mrs. Whidden is preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Whidden is survived by her husband of over 45 years, Mr. Wilson Whidden of Lake Butler; her daughters, Carrie (Jay) Blodgett of Howie-in-the-Hills and Kim (Jamie) Austin of Lake Butler; step-children, Steve Hatcher and Pat (Doug) Bliss both of Naples; her 4 grandchildren, Avah and Tyler Blodgett and Cole and Bailee Austin; and her brother, James McCoy of Michigan.
A Celebration of Mrs. Whidden’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at her church, First Baptist Church of Starke. Pastor Matthew Page to officiate.
A Celebration will also be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at New Hope Ministries in Naples, FL.
