Joseph "Joe" Gunter

LC Joseph Gunter “Joe” was born on October 24, 1951 to Willis Gunter and Lucille Posey Gunter Hardenbrooke. He went home to be with the Lord on April 21 after a brief illness. 

Joe is preceded in death by a daughter Janet, his parents, a brother Ronnie Gunter, sister Mamie Lou Cowart, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Lorenza and Bobbie Jean Griffis. He is survived by his wife Glenda of 43 years, 2 daughters, Julee Ricketson (Dustan) and Krystal Gainey (John), 5 grandchildren, Paislee Ricketson, Preston Ricketson, Zachary Gainey, Daegan Gainey and Kallen Gainey, a brother Ricky Gunter, and many more special family members and friends. 

He retired from E.I. DuPont Nemours, Inc as a maintenance mechanic after 21 years. 

He was an active member of Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny where he enjoyed playing his guitar with the choir, helping the cooking ministry and attending Sunday School where he helped with various cooking events. 

Cooking was one of his favorite hobbies. He was well known in the community for his washpot chicken and rice. He even won 2nd place in a chicken and rice cook off. He enjoyed farming by planting a garden and tending to livestock. He loved to travel, especially to his house in the mountains of North Carolina. He liked to go camping and fish at Kingsley Lake. 

He truly had a servant’s heart, always lending a helping hand to neighbors and anyone he met. He was known in the community as “Mr. Fix It.”  

Nothing made him smile more than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. 

The family will welcome friends at a visitation from 6-8pm on Wednesday, April 24 at Archer Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 1:00 in the afternoon at. Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny. Internment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Raiford. Arrangements are entrusted to Archer Funeral Home, Lake Butler. 386-496-2008.
