Johnny L Pons

Johnny L. Pons peacefully passed away at home on April 30, 2017, while in the arms of his wife. On September 18, 1956, Johnny, was born to Belvia Osborne Pons, in Cleveland, Ohio. Johnny grew up and graduated high school in Alaucha County, Florida. He earned his diploma in Funeral Directing and Embalming from Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Georgia. Later, Johnny returned to Gupton Jones to study and perfect the skill of Restorative Art. After graduating, Johnny traveled across the United States and abroad restoring bodies for funeral homes and dignitaries. In 2005, he enrolled in Saint Johns River community college and became an accredited law enforcement officer. He gained employment with the Bradford County Sheriff's Department. He was awarded deputy of the year for two consecutive years. Soon thereafter, Johnny was promoted to Major Crimes Detective. Johnny enjoyed fishing, cooking, farming, and raising cattle. Together with his wife, he especially enjoyed watching his youngest two sons play football in high school and at Valdosta State University.
Johnny is preceded in death by his dear friend and grandfather, J.R. Pons, father, Alvin Pons, and baby sister Tammy.
Johnny's sweet and precious memory will be treasured by his family and all who were blessed to call him a friend. He is survived by his beloved mother, Belvia Pons. Johnny is survived by his adoring wife, Shellie Renee' Pons. He is survived by three daughters and three sons; Tammy (Pons) Keefover, Jamie Phillips, Candace (Pons) Joseph, John L. Pons, Vanden Fehmerling, and BC Fehmerling. Johnny is survived by two brothers; Darrell Pons Sr. and Todd Pons. He is survived by his sister in law, Laura Pons and nephew Darrell Pons Jr. Johnny is survived by seven granddaughters and four grandsons. Johnny Pons is survived by his brother by grace and lifelong best friend, Elgin Altizer. He is also survived by the Archer family of Lake Butler, who Johnny called his second family. Johnny is loved by many and will be missed deeply.
