Joe Ross Henkle, Sr, age 90, of Keystone Heights, Florida, was re-united with his beloved wife, Mildred, of sixty-seven years, on June 24, 2024. He was born to Luther LaGrand Henkle and Gladys Madgeline Whitehead Henkle in Warm Springs, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing. He retired from Georgia Pacific and worked several years afterwards for AVIS. He was a Boyscout Scout Master in Putnam and Clay counties and enjoyed teaching the younger generation his skills and sharing his experience and knowledge. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Starke, Florida, where he attended until unable.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred, a brother, Jack Henkle, sisters, Mildred Harrell and Betty Miles.
He is survived by sons, Rev. Joe Ross Henkle, Jr and Luther Steven Henkle; a sister, Pat Neely of Atlanta, GA; Granddaughter, Faith Elisabeth Henkle Winter (Erik) of Alexandria, VA; Great Grandson, Elijah Winter and Great Granddaughter, Aria Winter; nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The family is in the care of ARCHER-MILTON FUNERAL HOME in Lake Butler, FL. Viewing will be at SOUTH MIDDLEBURG BAPTIST CHURCH - 4565 Alligator Blvd - Middleburg, FL 32068, July 2, 2024 at 10:00 A M followed by service at 10:30 A M with the Reverend Charles Starling, Delton Kilpatrick and Joe Ross Henkle, Jr officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 P M at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
