Joe Gray, III, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2024, after an extended illness. Born in Macclenny on February 23, 1953, to the late Joe Jr. and Edith Davis Gray, he touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and unwavering dedication.
Joe spent his career working in heavy construction, where he not only honed his skills but also developed lifelong friendships. He was known for his incredible work ethic, always taking pride in the tasks he undertook. Outside of his professional life, Joe found joy in a variety of hobbies that reflected his love for the outdoors and passion for adventure. He spent countless weekends fishing in tournaments, where he sought the thrill of the catch. Additionally, he was an avid horseman, often trail riding, barrel racing, and roping. His dedication to equestrian activities led him to become a valued member of the MBHA District 2, where he found a community that mirrored his enthusiasm and spirit.
In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Joe was a talented saddler, adept at both repairing and creating saddles. This skill demonstrated not only his craftsmanship but also his deep appreciation for the equine world.
Joe leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He is survived by the love of his life, Bambi Gray of Lake Butler; step-daughter, Patty Altman of Lake Butler; his daughter, Dana Barton of Macclenny; his son, Dane Gray of Douglas, GA; and his brother, Tim Gray of Sanderson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Jr. and Edith Davis Young, as well as his siblings, Monroe Gray and Martha Gray.
