Joan Stephan Gartman, of Lake Butler, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL. With her family by her side, Mrs. Gartman died of an extended illness. She was 78.
Mrs. Gartman was born on September 17, 1936 in Miami, to the late Robert Stephan and Margaret Smith. She lived most of her life in North Florida, having relocated to Lake Butler in 1981. Mrs. Gartman was a member of the Lake Butler Women's Club, where she once served as president. She was involved with Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 10082, also serving as past president, and was a Eucharistic Minister & Catechism teacher for Epiphany Catholic Church in Lake City.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 23 years, Herb Gartman; son, Delbert "Buddy" Fortenberry; three great-grandchildren, Maddilynn Kirby, Liberty French, and Serinity Gartman; two sisters, Jackie Woods and Barbara Jean Turner.
Mrs. Gartman is survived by seven daughters: Jo-An Prevatt, husband Erle, of St. Augustine, Margaret Reeves of Lake Butler, Karen Zwerg, husband Daniel, of Ocean Springs, MS, Sherril Burns of Hattiesburg, MS, Barbara Fischer, husband Chris, of Lake Butler, Jana Redding, husband Henry, of Lake Butler, Jackie Beech, husband Chad, of Lake Butler; Two sons: Charlie Gartman, wife Hope, of Lake Butler, and Herb Gartman II, wife Jenn, of Lake Butler; One brother, Carter Rochester of Panama City;
25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home. The family invites friends for visitation at 6:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will take place Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
