Mr. Jerry Earl Jernigan, age 55, of Lake Butler, passed away peacefully on Monday August 5, 2013, at the E.T. York Haven Hospice Care Center in Gainesville after an extended illness. Mr. Jernigan was born on January 3, 1958, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to the Earnest H. Jernigan and Anita Faye Huskey Jernigan. He worked for the State of Florida as a Correctional Officer at RMC and New River until his retirement. He served for 8 years proudly in the Marine Corps, and attended the First Baptist Church in Lake Butler. Mr. Jernigan was a member of the Corrections Foundation as well as the National Rifle Association, where he was also an instructor. Mr. Jernigan is preceded in death by his mother: Anita Faye Huskey Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan is survived by his loving wife: Phyllis "Nan" Jernigan of Lake Butler; father: Earnest H. Jernigan of Ocala; daughters: Erica Parrish (Kevin) of Lake Butler and Jessica Simpson of Paisley; brothers: Timothy H. Jernigan of Tallahassee and Daniel Jernigan (Geneva) of Ocala. Three grandchildren also survive. Memorial services for Mr. Jernigan will be conducted on Friday August 9, 2013, at 4PM in the chapel of Archer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date.
