James Harold Haltam, Jr., affectionately known as "Jim," was born on June 8, 1955, in Buffalo, NY. He embarked on a journey of life that touched the hearts of many before his passing on December 17, 2024, in Lake Butler, FL, after a courageous battle with ALS. He passed peacefully and exactly as he wanted, in the arms of his loving wife, surrounded and held by his children and family. Jim's legacy is marked by his unwavering faith, deep love for his family, and his incredible ability to embrace life to its fullest.
A proud graduate of Broward High School, Class of 1973, Jim went on to establish a career that began with his retirement from Publix as a Hall of Fame truck driver. He then spent several years at the Walmart distribution center. Beyond his professional endeavors, Jim was a skilled craftsman, dedicating his time to building homes and remodeling spaces, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Jim's greatest joy came from being surrounded by his family. He was the embodiment of a loving husband, supportive father, and devoted Papa. His faith guided him through life, and he was a perfect example of a Christian leader, demonstrating love and kindness to everyone he met. His incredible sense of humor, warmth, and laughter brought endless joy to gatherings, making every moment unforgettable. Jim loved sharing in family adventures and was never shy about bragging on his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Among Jim's cherished hobbies, riding horses and motorcycles offered him a sense of freedom, while lounging on the beach brought him peace. He passionately cheered for Miami football alongside his family, reveling in the camaraderie and excitement of game days.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Dottie Haltam; their children, Danielle Andrews and her husband Bart, Jeremiah Haltam and his wife Tabatha, Naomi Ingram and her husband Trey, and Joshua Haltam and his wife Chastity. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Luke, Brittany, Tristan, Elijah, Jewel, Tyson, Ike, Koa, as well as his great-granddaughters, Madison, Ashlyn, and Sedona. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda Haltam, John Haltam, and Colleen Phillips.
Jim's heart swells with love for the family he treasured above all else. He leaves behind treasured memories and a deep impact on those who had the privilege to know him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Carbonell, and father, James Haltam, Sr., along with his granddaughter, Amberly Andrews.
A visitation to celebrate Jim's life will be held on December 23, 2024 at Glen Springs church of Christ 2214 NW 31st Avenue in Gainesville, FL from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service immediately following from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, wrapping up with a heartfelt farewell to a man whose light will forever shine in the hearts of his loved ones. There will be a graveside service immediately following at 1:00 PM at Elzey Chapel Cemetery 13372 SW 52nd St, Lake Butler, FL 32054.
