Mr. Gary Miles Hodges, Sr., age 74, passed away at his home on July 1, 2024. Born May 29, 1950, to the late R.C. and Louvenia Bennett Hodges, Gary has been lifelong resident of Baker County. At an early age Gary started doing pulp wood with his family and continued until his health made him stop last year. Gary was known also for his knack for gardening. He tended his 10-acre garden year-round depending on the crop. He was told once he could grow corn on concrete and his abundance of crops proved that saying true. Gary was a simple man who enjoyed life’s simplicities; his family, hunting, cooking, football, and an ice cold Pepsi to name a few. Gary was a founding member of the Sanderson Volunteer Fire Department where he graciously gave of his time for 20 years.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deborah Hodges; sons, Terrell (Melissa) Hodges, Randy (Ashley) Hodges, and Justin (Lacey) Hodges; grandchildren, Jonathan (Kansas) Hodges, Emily Hodges (Trace Milton), Christopher Hodges, Grady Hodges, Braelynn Hodges, Jailei Watson, Lane Hodges, Easten Hodges, Angela and LeAnne; 2 great-granddaughters, Brinleigh and Olivia; siblings, R.C “Bud” Hodges, Rick (Brenda) Hodges, Timmy (Betty Jo) Hodges, JoAnn Rudd, Mary Jane Pritchett, and Connie (Mike) Green; and a host of nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gary Hodges, Jr.; and siblings, Linda Hodges, Jeanette Stoltman, Sandy Coon, and Danny Hodges.
A visitation time for friends will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd from 5pm to 7pm at Archer-Milton Funeral Home, Lake Butler. He will be laid to rest at Macedonia Cemetery with a graveside service at 3pm on Wednesday, July 3rd. Bro. Tommy Richardson to officiate the service. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons, with honorary pallbearers, Terry Bennett, Blake Fish, Aaron Fish, Derrick Harvey, R.C. “Bud” Hodges, Rick Hodges, Timmy Hodges, Luke Rewis, and Joey Thrift. Archer-Milton Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Gary Hodges.
