Elsie Lorene Carlton

Elsie Lorene Carlton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. Born on August 23, 1937, in Arran, Florida, she was the daughter of Hayward and Lois Louise Rose Linzy.

Throughout her life, Elsie demonstrated a profound commitment to her family and her work. She dedicated many years of her career as a nurse at the Northeast Florida State Hospital, where her loving but strong-willed personality shone through in her care for others. Elsie's nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. She found joy in reading, solving puzzles, cross-stitching, crocheting, and quilting, pursuits that reflected her creativity and dedication.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Ernest D. Carlton, Sr., her daughter Cynthia Thornton and son Durant Carlton, granddaughter Karen Carlton and grandson Randy Carlton along with her parents and five siblings: Tommy Linzy, Betty Dees, Ben Linzy, Kenny Linzy, and Wanda Sapp.

Elsie leaves behind her son, Ricky Carlton, and his wife, Dana, along with her grandchildren Wendy (St. Claire) Sefcik, Melissa (Dail) Carlton, Joey (Carrie) Carlton, and Dustin Norman. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Savanna, Grace, Tucker, Wade, Mason, Bailee, and Robert. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Virginia Linzy.

A graveside service will be held on February 22, 2025, at Sapp Cemetery in Raiford, Florida, beginning at 2:00pm. Pastor Randall A. Griffis, Sr. to officiate. Family and friends are welcome to gather and pay their respects as they celebrate the remarkable life of Elsie Lorene Carlton.
