Elliott Manche McLeod, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away July 8th, 2022, at the age of 87, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The son of Cyril and Dorrie McLeod, Elliott grew up in Lake Butler, Florida. He was born August 2nd, 1934, in Lake Butler and attended Union County High School.
At the age of 19, Elliott was drafted by the Army to serve during the Korean War. He was sent to Germany, where he drove trucks, transporting ammo and supplies to the troops. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Private Second Class. As part of this service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal.
He retired from working in the Florida State Prison to take over his father’s barber shop in downtown Lake Butler.
Elliott was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril McLeod of Lake Butler, and Dorrie Crawford McLeod of Lake Butler; by his wife, Carolyn Carter McLeod of Bryceville, Florida and one granddaughter.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra Braddock of Pensacola, Florida; Carolyn Beverly of Jacksonville, Florida; and Michele Shinholser of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dorris Braddock, Cody Shinholser, Lance Shinholser, Christina Carrasco and 8 great grandchildren. His loved ones will remember what a doting father he was and a loving grandfather. They will also remember all of his stories of growing up on the farm, his time in the military and hunting and fishing.
A viewing will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, July 16th, 2022, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler, Florida, followed immediately by the funeral at 2pm. A small graveside service will be held at Elzey Chapel Cemetery. Both Services will be officiated by Rev. J.R. McLeod.
