Dorothy Bradley Davis, 92, died peacefully at her Glen St. Mary home on Thursday, Oct. 8th. Born on January 6, 1928 to Benjamin Franklin Bradley and Mabel Crews Powers. She married her husband of 64 years, Ralph Davis, on Thanksgiving Day, 1949.
Mrs. Davis was one of Baker County’s first students to attend duel-enrollment classes with the University of Florida and she also taught 5th grade at the Glen School during her final years in high school. In the 1970s she helped found N.E. Florida Land and Title and enjoyed her career until her retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Davis was not just a hearer of the Word, she was also a doer of the Word. She was a faithful member of Raiford Road Church, taught Sunday School for 39 years, and actively participated in mission trips. Dorothy was an incredible wife, mother, and Nana Ralph. She was known as an excellent seamstress who in her spare time enjoyed working in the yard and cooking dinners for her large family (who held her biscuits in the highest regard.)
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Davis and her twin sons Gary and Terry. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Kathy (Gary) Barber, Wanda Sue (John) Raulerson, and Dayle (John) Milton; her 9 grandchildren, Tracy Archambault, Todd Barber, Kara Griffith, Kanon Simmons, AnnaDayle Fuss, Garrett Milton, J.D. Milton, Kaylen Marks, and Wyatt Milton; and her 17 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Mrs. Davis’ memory to Village Mission, First Coast Women’s Services, or International Mission Builders.
A funeral service to honor Ms. Davis’ life will be held on Monday, October 12th at 11:00 am at the Raiford Road Church, Macclenny, FL. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, October 11th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at South Prong Cemetery. Her services will be officiated by her grandson, Pastor JD Milton and son in law, Pastor John Raulerson.
Ms. Davis’ arrangements are under the care of her grandson, Garrett Milton, L.F.D. and Archer Funeral Home, Lake Butler, FL. 386-496-3008. www.archerfuneralhome.com
