On February 14, 2025, Daniel Irvin Milling, lovingly known as “Superman,” left this earthly home and entered into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He passed peacefully at Terrace Health Rehabilitation in Gainesville, FL, surrounded by family and the grace of God.
Daniel was born on February 6, 1937, in Avon Park, FL, to John Ernest and Eunice Irene Milling, who have gone before him. He was also preceded in death by his beloved stepson, Earl Cox.
A hardworking man with a heart of gold, Daniel was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. In his younger years, he worked in the orange groves of South Florida before dedicating twenty-three years as a 3rd Class Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Gainesville until his retirement in 1988.
A man of simple joys, Daniel found peace and happiness in the beauty of God’s creation. He loved to fish, work on lawnmowers, watch NASCAR, shoot pool, and, most of all, spend precious time with his beloved family and friends. His kind spirit, unwavering strength, and deep love for those around him will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
Daniel is survived by his children, who were his greatest pride and joy: Dale Milling of Norwalk, OH, Mickel Milling of Slidell, LA, Paul Prentiss of Alachua, FL, and Tammy (Jacob) Wilkerson of Worthington Springs, FL. He was also a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren and to nine great-grandchildren.
While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of our Lord, rejoicing in eternal life. His faith was his foundation, and we take solace in God’s promise:
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 PM, at Sardis Baptist Church in Worthington Springs, FL. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Daniel’s memory, sharing in the love he so freely gave.
