Carol Marie Phillips Swails, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday June 27, 2024, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 3, 1936, in Gainesville, Florida to the late George and Marie McClellan. She was a true matriarch to her family. She loved to sing, dance, cook, swim, free dive, and roller skating on a professional level. She was known for her feisty personality.
To know her, was to love her. She was a member of Watertown Congregational Methodist Church in Lake City, Florida and devoted her life to living for Christ and for her family. Five generations later, that same devotion still lives on. She is proceeded in death by her husbands, Lavaughn Swails and William C. Phillips, daughter Debbie A. Bailey, sisters Mayzelle Christian and Helen Doss, brothers George McClellan and Henry McClellan. She is survived by her daughters Wanda (Donald) Norman, Elizabeth Bass, sons William “Billy” (Lydia) Phillips, Scott Barber, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation to honor her life will be held at New River New Congregational Methodist Church located in Raiford, Florida on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10:00 am with the service at 11 am.
