Mr. Bobby R. Bennett, age 78, of Lake Butler, FL, passed away on November 1, 2018, at the Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL. He was born in Lakeland, GA, on October 1, 1940, to the late Isbon Murrell Bennett and the late Lorene Hunter Bennett. Mr. Bennett was raised in Orlando, FL, and then moved to Lake City, FL, and in 1969, moved to Lake Butler after a job with Owens-Illinois Timber Company opened up in the area. He would end up working as a heavy equipment mechanic in the timber industry for 39 years. In 2006, Bobby retired from Packaging Corporation of America. He was known as a tinkerer, especially on antique engines. He loved to go to tractor shows and antique shows. He was an active member in the North Florida Antique Engine Association, the Deep South Gas and Steam Engine Club, and the Florida Flywheelers Club. He was also known as a loving family man and loved taking care of his grandkids. He is preceded in death by both parents; his daughter, Sandra Louise Bennett; brother, Joe Tomlinson; sister, Janelle Adams; and special brother-in-law, William Allison.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Laing Bennett of Lake Butler, FL; sons, Rell (Sherry) Bennett of Trenton, FL and Tim (Nicole) Bennett of Mukilteo, WA; daughter, Barbara A. Bennett-Cribbs of Lake Butler, FL; eight grandkids, Sarah (Joe), Becca (Jeremy), Anna (Jacob), Tory (Daniel), Courtney, Mikeala, Mitchell, and Myles; four great-grandkids, Bennett, Charlotte, Kinsley, and Tristen; one sister, Mary Allison of Jacksonville, FL; one brother-in-law, Harold Adams of Cocoa, FL. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Bennett will be held on Saturday, November 10, at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Archer Funeral Home in Lake Butler. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 1:00pm (one hour before the service). His interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
