Betty Sue Matthews

Betty Sue Matthews, age 89, of Bland passed away peacefully at her home on May 11, 2023. She was born August 12, 1933, in Starke, FL to the late Joel and Sarah Sapp Alvarez. Betty was a beautiful person inside and out. She always dressed impeccably and loved to accessorize. She had the biggest heart and most beautiful smile. She cared deeply for the people around her. Betty had incredible patience, and always made time to help others. She was very kind and thoughtful. She was instantly adored by every person that had the pleasure of meeting her. She will be forever missed. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Bland Matthews; son, John C. Matthews; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Betty is survived by her children, Joel Matthews of Bland and Bobbie (Larry) Dees of Ringgold, GA; grandchildren, Robert Dees, Bland Matthews, Courtney (Lorenzo) Sturgis, Alyssa Bradley; great-grandchildren, Dixie, Katie, Austin, Donnie, Vincent, Luci; great-great-grandson, Quincy.

A service to honor Betty will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Archer-Milton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends of a visitation beginning at 1:00pm. Betty will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Ft. Call Cemetery.
