Betty Ruth Clemons

On July 16, 2020, while at home and surrounded by family, Betty Ruth Clemons left this mortal life to enter her heavenly home at the age of 91. Affectionately known as Memaw, words like loving, caring, selfless, giving, affectionate, modest, humble, and kind, are words that begin, but do not fully capture, the personal qualities of this loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loving mother to Lewis Johnson, Larry Clemons of Germany, Tommy Clemons of Newman, GA, Tony Clemons of Graham, Fred Clemons of Dukes, Marlene Lane of Lake Butler, Michael Clemons of Lake Butler, Curt Clemons of Gainesville, and Bart Clemons of Lake Butler. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Born April 6, 1929 in Miami, FL to Swedish immigrants, Betty (Memaw) would learn to make a home around the United States, and in other countries of the world, in support of her husband’s military career. They would eventually settle down on the family homestead in Lake Butler where she would happily live out the remainder of her life.

She was an avid music lover who especially enjoyed both gospel and country music. The ultimate joy of her earthly life was the family God gave her. She was certainly the glue that held the family close together. Preceding her in death were her parents Fred and Amy Pearson, her husband Harold L. Clemons, son Lewis, sister Elsie, and many brothers and sisters in law whom she loved dearly.

Those who knew her, especially those closest to her, know without a doubt the blessing from God she truly was.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 19 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Lake Butler. Her funeral service will begin at 3:00pm at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Archer Funeral Home. 386-496-2008 www.archerfuneralhome.com
