It is with great sadness that the family of Bennie Joe Harris, age 73, announces his passing on May 1, 2018. Bennie was born on August 20, 1944 in West Monroe, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his father, H.W. Harris, mother, Annie Ruth Thomas and Paul John Thomas, sister, Susie Cascio, brother, Barney F. Harris and beloved son, Paul John Harris.
Bennie leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Laura Harris. Children, Tina Harris, Barbara Franklin (Jeff), Ruth Anne Walker (Wannis), Frank Mastronardi and Floyd Mastronardi. Brothers, Johnny Thomas (Linda) and Jimmy Thomas (Linda). Sisters, Dorothy Spillers (CD) and Paula Jones (Andy).
Bennie's legacy includes his twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Kristen Pleus (Addy Pleus), Bennie Joe Saucer, Brittany Ettman (Khalia Lyvers), Rebecca Griffin (Reylee Griffin), Natalee Thornton, Travis Evan Anderson (Bradley Anderson), Logan Crawford, Rod Crawford III, Zakary Wannis Walker, Mallory Mastronardi (Deena), Paul John Harris II, and Cameron Jenkins.
Bennie proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and served three tours during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked with the Department of Corrections for 12 years before retiring. He was active in the NRA and supported our 2nd Amendment rights.
Bennie will be fondly remembered for his love for his family, especially the joy he found in his beloved grandchildren. He loved to hunt and was an excellent gunsmith. His skills included woodworking and building. He will be missed on Saturday mornings having coffee with his best friend and son-in-law, Wannis Walker.
