Barbara Mizell Wood, 80, passed away December 30, 2013 at E.T York Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, following an extended illness. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 13, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Leroy and Alma Mizell. At an early age, the family moved to Lake Butler, Florida. Barbara attended Union County Schools and Florida Southern College where she met and married Bill in 1954, who survives. Barbara was an Army wife of 25 years and quickly adjusted to the military life consisting of frequent moves to include numerous Army post throughout the United States to include two tours in Europe. Barbara was a very gifted artist who was successful at any endeavor she undertook, her hobbies included oil painting, ceramics, sewing, knitting and playing golf. Upon her husband's retirement from military, the family moved to Union County, Florida and built their dream house on a small farm near Worthington Springs, later Barbara opened a crafts shop in Lake Butler. For the past 20 years, Barbara and Bill made their home at Turkey Creek Golf and Country Club in Alachua, Florida. She was a member of Haque United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Bill, one daughter Janet of Alachua, Florida, three sons Kerry B. (Desni) of Atlanta, Ga., Bill R. (Laurie) of Columbus, Ohio, and David A. (Mar Jo) of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, 7 grandchildren, Jon Sherwood (Brittany), Katie Shipsides (Andy), Adam, Andrew, Phillip, Alexander, and Lana Wood, One brother, Donald Mizell (Doris) of Daytona Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by one son, John Wood.
Funeral Services will be under the direction of Goad Funeral Home in Scottsville, Ky. with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery. The Services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Goad Funeral Home.
