Barbara Jo Keene

Barbara Jo Keene, age 90, passed away on July 21, 2023, at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL. She was born on August 18, 1932, in LaCrosse, FL to the late Joseph and Lena Gann Parker. Barbara spent most of her life in Newberry however she has called Keystone Heights home for the past 16 years. 

Barbara was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through her 30 years of dedicated service at Tacachale as a pharmaceutical assistant. Outside of work, Barbara enjoyed a number of hobbies and interests. She found great joy in watching NFL football, cheering for her favorite teams with enthusiasm. Playing bingo was another pastime that brought her immense delight and allowed her to connect with friends and community members. Additionally, Barbara had a green thumb and took pride in tending to her beautiful flowers. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Arthur Keene; her parents, Joseph and Lena Parker; and her siblings, Nora Irene Allen and Jerry Dean Parker.

Barbara is survived by her loving children, Steve Allen (Thereasa) Keene of Otter Creek, Sharon Adelene Knight of Lake City, Michael Wheeler (Kathy) Keene of Elloree, SC, and Toni Lee Keene of Keystone Heights; her grandchildren: Rebecca, Steve, Bessie, Rusty, Kammie, Ronald, Henry, Ophelia, Sherry, Eric, Allan Ray, Candice, John, Jennifer, and Katie; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Barbara Jo Keene's life will be honored at a graveside service on July 26, 2023. The service will take place at Jonesville Cemetery located at 17745 SW 15th Ave, Newberry, FL 32669. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM with the service following at 11:00 AM.
