Arthur "AB" Carter, age 82, passed away on October 8, 2023, at UF Health Shands in Gainesville, FL. He was born on July 20, 1941, in Waycross, GA, to the late Dewey and Elizabeth Carter. Following high school, A.B. dedicated two years of his life serving in the United States Army. He was proud of his service and a loyal patriot to our country. He met the love of his life, Sylvia Courson, and after a quick courtship, the two were married in 1970. After a string of various jobs, A.B. discovered a career with CSX, where he served as a bridge supervisor. He took great pride in his work, ensuring the safety of railway operations for countless commuters and freight shipments for 28 years. His career took him and Sylvia all over the country, however, in 1996 they settled home in Lake Butler. In addition to his successful career, A.B. found joy in various hobbies and interests. He enjoyed spending time outdoors engaged in yard work and building wooden creations with his skilled hands. Sports brought him great excitement, particularly football, baseball, and golf. Although he may have had a gruff exterior at times, A.B.'s true nature shone through his teasing demeanor. Those fortunate enough to know him well bore witness to his big heart and unwavering kindness. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, showering them with love and treating them as his own. A.B. is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Elizabeth Carter and his sisters, Onnie Pittman, Gertrude Yancey, Annie Mae Meeks, and Bertha Mae Hickox.
He leaves behind a loving wife of 52 years, Sylvia Carter; his sisters Helen (Horace) Martin, Josie Drury, and Glenda Portie; along with his brothers-in-law, Ralph (Bonnie) Courson and Alan (Joan) Courson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
