Mr. Allen Lang Smith, age 88, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice in Jacksonville on September 9, 2022. Mr. Smith was born October 21, 1933, in Lake Butler, FL to the late Horace and Maggie Varnes Smith. At the age of 20, he joined the United States Navy and served honorably for 8 years. After the military, Mr. Smith went to work at the Jacksonville Shipyards for 30 years. He was also the owner and operator of Smith and Sons Heating and Air for almost 20 years. Mr. Smith enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Mr. Smith’s main passion was the Lord. He enjoyed studying the Bible, listening to preaching, doing mission work in Mexico, and attending church. He was a member of Hunterdale Family Worship in Jacksonville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Horace Smith and Maggie Varnes Smith; grandparents, Lily Varnes and Jake Varnes; his wife, Mary Smith; mother of his children, Lila Lee Smith; sons, Donald Lang Smith and Allen Lang Smith, Jr. and his sisters, Louise Hubbard
, Lavita Crawford, and Jewell Crawford.Mr. Smith is survived by his children, Mark Allen Smith (Sherry) of Callahan, Steven Lee Smith of Middleburg, and Kelly Smith Spivey (Jim Kountz) of Jacksonville; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tawnya, Donna, Crissy, Steven, Jr., Kyle and Taylor; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family.
A funeral to honor Mr. Smith’s life will be held on Thursday, September 15, at 11:00 am at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 10 am. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion/Swift Creek Cemetery immediately following the service.
